SHEIN or Temu copied my design: how to report it
TL;DR
- To report a design copied on SHEIN, file through SHEIN's Intellectual Property Notice Portal; on Temu, use its IP infringement report portal. Both take reports from the rights owner or an authorised agent.
- Pick the right that matches what was copied: copyright for a print, graphic or your product photos, trademark for your name or logo, and a design right for the look of the product itself.
- SHEIN accepts registered and unregistered design rights as well as copyright, trademark and patents; Temu's policy names copyright, trademark and patents.
- Next step: before you file, save the listing's product number and dated screenshots next to proof of when you first published your design.
SHEIN and Temu both run their own reporting portals for intellectual property, and both remove listings on a valid notice. What makes a report hold up is choosing the right that actually covers what was copied: in the US, copyright protects a print or a graphic but not the cut of a garment. This page covers which right fits, the evidence to gather, and filing on each platform.
What you'll need
- The listing URLs and product numbers. SHEIN asks for the location of each item in enough detail to find it, and points to its 'How to find an SKU' help.
- Dated screenshots of each listing, with the price and seller visible.
- Proof of your design and when you first published it: your original artwork or photos, your own product page, a dated social post or a lookbook.
- Registration details, for a trademark, registered design or patent.
- A Power of Attorney, if you file for the rights owner on SHEIN, which requires one from agents.
- An account on each portal. SHEIN's portal needs an account with your name, company name and email; Temu's reporting page needs you to sign in.
The steps on this page follow SHEIN's and Temu's own IP pages, checked 16 October 2026.
Pick the right that covers what was copied
| What was copied | Right to claim | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| A print, pattern or graphic | Copyright | Protected from creation with no registration. The US Copyright Office says copyright protects artwork that can be identified separately from the useful article |
| Your product photos | Copyright | The strongest claim when the listing uses your own photos |
| Your brand name or logo | Trademark | Needs a registration valid where the listing is sold |
| The shape or cut of a garment or product | A design right or design patent | US copyright does not protect the 'mechanical or utilitarian aspects' of a useful article such as clothing. In the US that means a design patent; in the UK and EU, design rights (below) |
In the UK, the appearance of a product is protected for 3 years from the date you make it public, without registration (supplementary unregistered design), and UK design right protects the shape of a 3D product automatically for up to 10 years from first sale or 15 years from creation. In the EU, an unregistered design is protected for 3 years from when it is first made public in the EU, against deliberate copying. A US design patent protects the way an article looks and has to be granted first.
Is it a trend rather than a copy? If the listing shares a style but not your artwork, photos, name or a protected design, the platform is unlikely to act. Report the listings that reproduce something you can show you own.
Report a copy on SHEIN
Already have a SHEIN portal account? Sign in and skip to step 2.
- 1
Create a portal account
Open SHEIN's Intellectual Property Notice page and follow its link to the Intellectual Property Notice Portal. Create an account with your name, company name and email. Agents must provide a Power of Attorney.
- 2
Declare who you are
Confirm that you are the rights holder, an employee of the rights holder, or an authorised agent.
- 3
Identify your right
Say whether the notice is about copyright, trademark, design rights (registered or unregistered) or patent rights, with registration details where they apply, and attach the documents that show ownership and infringement.
- 4
Identify each listing
Give the location of every infringing item in enough detail for SHEIN to find it, including the product number.
- 5
Confirm and submit
Confirm that the information is true, accurate and complete. You can track and manage your reports in the portal.
SHEIN says it may ask for more documents or verification, and that a notice without sufficient information may be rejected. On a valid notice it may remove or disable access to the material and tell the party responsible that it has done so.
Report a copy on Temu
- 1
Sign in to the IP portal
Open Temu's intellectual property infringement report page and sign in. Reports come from the rights owner or an agent with their permission.
- 2
Identify your right
Give the registration number for a trademark or patent. For copyright, describe the work, link to it and give the date you first published it.
- 3
List the infringing products
The URL of each product, the infringing parties, and what infringes.
- 4
Attach the evidence
Temu's policy names order IDs from test purchases as supporting evidence. Add your contact details: name, address, phone and email.
- 5
Submit
Temu says it investigates, removes the reported content and takes 'appropriate action against the responsible parties', without sharing details of action that is not public.
Sellers can answer with a counter-notice, which Temu says it handles in line with the DMCA. Temu warns that continuous inaccurate or fake notices can cost you your submission privileges, and says it terminates repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances. Temu also runs a separate Brand Registry portal for brands.
Evidence that holds up
- Side by side: your original next to the listing image, with the copied element marked.
- A date that comes first: your design's first publication should predate the listing. Keep the original files, with their metadata.
- Every listing, separately. The same design often appears under several product numbers and sellers.
- A test purchase, if you can, on Temu, where the policy names test-purchase order IDs as evidence.
Copies also appear on AliExpress, Amazon and TikTok Shop. The where to report counterfeits directory lists each platform's official route.

Frequently asked questions
Can SHEIN or Temu legally copy my design?
Not when the listing reproduces something you own: your artwork, your product photos, your registered name or logo, or a protected design. A shared style or trend without those elements is usually not something either platform will remove.
Do I need a registered trademark or design to report?
No, for copyright: a print, graphic or photo is protected from creation. SHEIN also accepts unregistered design rights. A trademark or patent claim needs the registration number.
Is copying a clothing design copyright infringement?
In the US, copyright protects prints, patterns and graphics that can be identified separately from the garment, but not its cut or shape. The shape needs a design patent in the US, or a design right in the UK or EU.
Will SHEIN or Temu tell the seller who reported them?
SHEIN says it may notify the party responsible that the material was removed. Temu says it does not share details of actions that are not already public.
