IP Moat alternatives: how Takedown and others compare

Updated 14 Oct 20267 min readMatt Richard, Takedown

TL;DR

  • Takedown is a managed brand protection service for consumer brands: a person checks every match, you approve each case, and its team files across marketplaces, copycat stores and lookalike domains, social accounts and ad libraries, with new US trademark filings in your classes watched, from $500 a month.
  • Pick Takedown over IP Moat if you want sign-off on everything filed in your name.
  • IP Moat is a self-serve brand protection tool built for small and medium-sized brands selling on marketplaces, with their products synced from Shopify; pick it if your copies are mostly on one marketplace and you want removals filed for about $105 a month.
  • Both are compared from their own sites, read 14 Oct 2026, and the page ends with how a switch from IP Moat works.

Takedown and IP Moat both help a brand find copies of its products online and get them removed. This page sets out what they share, how each one works, where Takedown is the better buy, where IP Moat is, and how a switch works. Takedown (trytakedown.com) is not Takedown.co, the creator-piracy service.

What they have in common

Last updated: 14 Oct 2026. At a high level, both find copies of a brand online and get them taken down. Specifically:

  • Both have their own team file the reports for you.
  • Both cover marketplace listings.
  • Both publish their prices.
  • Both offer a free trial, scan or report before you pay.

That said, they differ on who does the work, what each covers and price. Where each one is the better buy is set out below, Takedown first.

How Takedown works

Managed. A person checks every match, you approve each case, and our team files with the platform, host and registrar. Nothing is filed until you approve the case.

  • Copycat websites and lookalike domains: Yes. Lookalike domains, certificate logs, Google search and reverse image search.
  • Marketplace listings: Yes. Amazon in 9 storefronts (US, UK, DE, FR, IT, ES, NL, SE, PL), eBay in 8 (US, UK, DE, FR, IT, ES, CA, AU), AliExpress, Alibaba, Temu, TikTok Shop, DHgate and Chrono24, plus any marketplace where Google Lens finds your product photos.
  • Social media accounts: Yes. Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and Threads accounts using your brand name.
  • Paid ads: Yes. Meta ads, and TikTok ads shown in the EU and UK.
  • Trademark filing watch: Partly. US (USPTO) applications and registrations using your brand name, in your goods classes. Not the EUIPO or UKIPO.
  • App stores: No

Price: From $500 a month, month to month with no annual lock-in; the quote comes with a free 360° report.

How IP Moat works

AI scans marketplaces for copies of your synced Shopify products, you approve listings in a dashboard, and IP Moat's system and team file the removals. IP Moat says it is built for small and medium-sized brands selling on marketplaces, with their products synced from Shopify. With IP Moat, its team files the reports for you.

  • Copycat websites and lookalike domains: Partly. Shopify stores, on Premium.
  • Marketplace listings: Yes. Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, Alibaba, Etsy, Walmart, Temu and TikTok Shop; 30+ marketplaces on Premium.
  • Social media accounts: Not stated on its site
  • Paid ads: Partly. Meta Ads.
  • Trademark filing watch: Not stated on its site
  • App stores: Partly. Google Play.

Price: Essential $105/month (1 marketplace, up to 40 removals); Premium $529/month (30+ marketplaces, up to 200 removals); Enterprise $1,350/month (up to 500 removals); Enterprise+ custom. Its Shopify listing also shows Essential (6 marketplaces) at $280/month. Free offer: Free counterfeit audit across key marketplaces.

Where Takedown is the better buy

You want sign-off on everything filed in your name. At Takedown a person checks every match, and nothing is filed under your brand until you approve the case. That keeps control of what goes to marketplaces, hosts and registrars under your trademark, with the evidence for each case in front of whoever approves it.

You want matches checked before they reach you. IP Moat leaves reviewing matches to you. At Takedown a person checks every match first, so the approval queue holds real copies with evidence attached, not raw alerts.

You want new trademark filings watched. Takedown watches US (USPTO) applications and registrations that use your brand name in your goods classes, and puts the recent ones up for review first. IP Moat's site does not mention a trademark filing watch.

You want copycat stores taken down too. Takedown searches lookalike domains, certificate logs, Google search and reverse image search for clones of your store, and files with the host and registrar as well as the store platform. IP Moat's site does not mention copycat websites.

Where IP Moat is the better buy

Low entry price. Essential starts at $105 a month for one marketplace with up to 40 removals, and its team files the removals you approve. That is one of the lowest published prices for a service that does the filing, which suits a brand whose copies are concentrated on Amazon or one other marketplace.

Shopify catalogue sync. It scans marketplaces for copies of products synced from your Shopify store, so your catalogue and images are ready to match without uploading them by hand. Its site says its Copyright Vault holds 65,000+ images, which is the reference set it matches against.

Monthly terms. Every published plan is monthly with no long-term commitment, and you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time. A brand can start on one marketplace, move to Premium when copies spread, and step back down without renegotiating a contract.

Limits to know about

  • Takedown: Its trademark watch covers US (USPTO) filings only. Brand Protector also watches the EUIPO, and Corsearch sells worldwide clearance and watch.
  • Takedown: Social accounts are found by searching each platform for your brand name, so an account that never uses the name is missed, and Pinterest is not searched.
  • Takedown: Etsy, Walmart and SHEIN are not searched directly; copies there are found through reverse image search.
  • IP Moat: Removals are capped per plan: 40 on Essential, 200 on Premium and 500 on Enterprise.
  • IP Moat: Essential covers a single marketplace on its own site, while its Shopify listing shows a six-marketplace Essential at $280/month, so check which applies when you sign up.
  • IP Moat: Social media accounts and trademark filing watch are not among the channels it lists.

Switching from IP Moat

  1. 1

    Export your open cases

Ask IP Moat for the list of open and recently filed reports, with the evidence for each. Platforms track reports per rights owner, so cases already filed stay valid.

  2. 2

    Sign a letter of authorisation

It lets our team file on your brand's behalf with marketplaces, hosts and registrars. It names Takedown as your agent and nothing else.

  3. 3

Add your trademarks and official stores

So we can cite registrations in reports and never flag your own domains, marketplace stores or authorised resellers.

  4. 4

    Approve the first cases

We re-check the open copies from your export and new matches from the first scan. You approve each case before anything is filed.
